A post-Mother’s Day Celebration “Tribute to Mama & Nana” will be held this Sunday (May 19) from 3pm at The Grand Ballroom of Blacktown Workers Club, 55 Campbell Street, Blacktown with a $30 pp light dinner and entertainment.
“Mother's Day ... a time for warm thoughts and fond memories, for expressing the feelings and words that often go unspoken, for letting those special people in our lives know that they are loved and appreciated – always!”
“The past Mother’s day events were very memorable especially for all the mothers and grandmothers who attended together with their families and friends at the Hungarian Club,” says Ms Josie Musa a (GK) Advocate-Organiser, Radio Adhika producer and broadcaster.
Last year, gift packs, plaques and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the winners and raffle prizes were won by most of the guests. All mothers in attendance were also given red roses, Musa said.
Mama and Nana tribute
This year’s Tribute to Mama & Nana celebration speakers include Order of Australia Medal (OAM) Filipino recipient, Atty. Lolita Farmer, the Vice President of Global Filipinos (Pacific Region) and a veteran community leader; the Blacktown City Mayor which will be represented by first Filipino Councillor of Blacktown, Atty. Jess Diaz and Cn. Jaqueline Donaldson who responded immediately to our invitation. The Blacktown Woman of the Year 2010 Awardee, another Filipina, Dr. Julie Nunez will also share her message to our dear mothers. Inspirational messages were also gathered from former Mother and Grandmother of the Year recipients.
Community leaders of the various Filipino organisations, families, friends and supporters of the mother and grandmother nominees are excited for the fabulous entertainment that they will be seeing on Sunday. Top event performers include: Mindanao Ethic Dance Group, Maharlika Inc. Dancers, international singer & dancer, Brian Lorenz, soprano singer, Linda Trinidad, Isla Pacifica Dance Troupe, Australia Got Talent finalist, Gally, Rica & Sabrina jazz/ballet performances and many more.
The event Program Director is no other than Albert Prias of Flagcom, with publisher/author Michelle Baltazar and radio broadcaster Charles Chan as EMCEES. With the full support of the teams from the three collaborating radio programs headed by the indefatigable community leader/worker Josie and Gerry Musa of Radio Adhika; Nilda and Mon Carpo of Radio Dalisay and Marile Bomediano of Radio Agila, it is anticipated that the event will be a success.
The proceeds from this event will go towards the Adhika library project, a long-term initiative by Filipino-Australians to support the ongoing education of young children in the Philippines.
