The Miss Earth Australia quest approaches its final month and prospective entries from the Filipino-Australian community have yet to join the competition.

Almost 50 contestants have signed up from across Australia but not one has come from our Filipino community, according to quest founder and organiser Maria James.

The Miss Earth Australia 2012 final and pageant will be held at the North Sydney Leagues Club, at 7pm on September 8.

''It would be sad if we won't have at least one Filipina to contest, at least from Sydney where most migrant families from the Philippines now make their home,'' Ms James said.

''At our inaugural quest, Ann-Maree Bowdler, whose mother was Filipina, became the first Miss Earth Australia in 2005. Last year, the Filipino community entered two candidates: Loralee Prentice and Monique Shippen.

Both finished among the top 10 finalists, with Loralee voted one of three runners-up as Miss Fire 2011.

Miss Earth Australia 2011 was Deedee Zibara, who took part in the world finals in Manila but did not place.

Ms James is now making an urgent call for entries from the Filipino-Australian community in Sydney.

To be a part of the event, the candidate must have a working knowledge of environmental issues, participated in tree-planting activities and have encouraged family and friends to support "green" projects.

Entries must also be aged between 18 and 26 years during her reigning period, never been married and be willing to travel to Sydney in September 2012 for the grand final.

To enter the Miss Earth Australia quest, prospective candidates may visit the website www.missearth.com.au and fill up an application or contact Ms James on mobile number 0401-211-164.
