If you are going to the Filipino festival in Sydney this weekend, don't forget to bring your wallet, camera, and perhaps, a paintbrush.

Fiesta Kultura, an annual Filipino festival in its 24th year running, will be held at the Fairfield Showgrounds this Sunday, 30 September, with doors opening at 10am.

The fiesta attracts thousands of Filipino-Australians and is like an annual pilgrimage to honour Filipino cuisine with stalls upon stalls of food, ranging from main dishes to sweets and popular Filipino snacks.

The festival organiser also invites at least two celebrities from the Philippines, which this year are Filipino hearthrob Gerald Anderson and famous comedian Pokwang.

With food and entertainment during the day, the event is capped off with the Miss Philippines-Australia beauty pageant in the evening.

But this year, the Philippine-Australia Sports & Culture, Inc (PASC) is injecting an artistic flavour to the festivities with an Arts and Crafts Pavillion, ably supported by a group of volunteers including Menchie Maneze, a member of PASC's arts and culture committee.

Menchie is inviting festival goers to join a fun arts competition under the theme 'Green Evolution', in keeping with this year's festival focus on renewable energy.

The competition winner receives a Samsung Galaxy tablet and, more importantly, the bragging rights plus the chance to rub shoulders with local Filipino-Australian celebrities, including award-winning Sydney Morning Herald illustrator, Edd Aragon, and acclaimed Filipino historian and author Renato Perdon.

An Encouragement Award will also be presented to a promising artist.

Under the People's Choice award, everyone can also have the chance to vote for their favorite artwork and win a gift voucher.
