Bing Cristobal, the Manila-based fashion designer to movie stars, celebrities and beauty queens, will be in Sydney this week to showcase his designs, including the gowns he created for 2013 Miss World Megan Young.

If you want to meet the fashion designer behind 2013 Miss World Megan Young's jaw-dropping evening gowns and stunning Singkil costume, then get your catwalk heels ready: Bing Cristobal is in Sydney this month for a one-off fashion show.

As one fashionista puts it, Bing Cristobal is the 'fashion designer of the hour', propelled onto the global stage after Miss Philippines candidate Megan Young won the crown and her images were splashed a million times over on newspapers, magazines, TV, YouTube and social media around the world.

It's the kind of worldwide marketing and advertising that any fashion designer would kill for.

But in a way, Cristobal is probably used to the limelight. He specialises in dressing up beauty queens, movie stars and celebrities from the Philippines. A stylist for ABS-CBN, the largest television network in the Philippines, his designs have graced the red carpet, including the most anticipated ABS-CBN black-tie event, the annual Star Magic Ball.

Fresh from the buzz of the Miss World win, he is ready to go global. In June, he hosted a fashion show in Barcelona, Spain titled 'Semana de Moda Filipina', which in turn inspired the upcoming Sydney fashion show.

Guests will have the chance to get up close and personal with Cristobal. All the evening gowns, barongs (traditional Filipino costume) and Filipiniana (traditional Filipina wear) that will be showcased on the night are for sale, and Cristobal and his team will be happy to do the fittings for custom orders.

And for those who want to wear what Megan Young wore when she took the Miss World crown, Cristobal is happy to oblige and provide the same design to his Australian clients, said Albert Prias, one of the producers behind the fashion show.

Among those gracing the catwalk wearing Cristobal's creations are: Melanie Balagtas (recently crowned Miss Australia-Philippines 2013), Lillian de los Reyes (well-known Sydney-based entertainer, performer and model) and Rod Dingle (Sydney's most-established emcee and a 'barong' collector).
