It was in 2022, as Jasmine Henry blossomed into adulthood at 18, when we had the last The Australian Filipina article about her. She and her girl group, G22, had since reached stellar heights in their musical journey under the management and care of Cornerstone Entertainment.
Jasmine, known affectionately as Jaz, in G22 has continually shone as a key part of the group as they made waves in the Philippine music scene and beyond the homeland.
The most recent impressive and significant performance of G22 was their rendition of the theme song of the 100th Anniversary of the Philippines’ National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The nation’s much celebrated girl pop group, G22 performed the theme song titled “Own the Future” in a packed venue in SM Mall of Asia Arena on September 7, 2024. The perfectly harmonised voices of Jaz, Alfea and AJ gave life to the song’s inspiring lyrics “…tara ana, tayo ay magsamasama dahil together we own the future… together we will be flying high… kaya natin ito, sky is the limit…”
Before this milestone in their successful career, Jaz as part of G22 which is recognised as the Philippine Female Alphas, became the Acer Philippines brand ambassador. They performed in collaboration with P-Pop boy group SB19 on Acer Day 2024: AIm Limitless concert last August 4 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. They performed the song “Limitless” – Acer Day 2024’s anthem which was composed by SB19’s Pablo. The song showed off their powerful vocals and impressive energetic dance moves.
Jaz and G22 continued soaring in their musical journey. They were invited to showcase their talent in China on the reality talent show "Show it All," orchestrated by the renowned Lhay Zhang from the famous group Exo.
The Chinese audience, girl group trainees, and mentors were very impressed as Jasmine and her group delivered spellbinding performances, earning the highest score in the show. They also managed to catch the attention of Exo Lay himself highlighting that Jasmine and her group are a standard for his trainees that he wants them to look up to.
Returning home after this wonderful achievement, G22 even more became popular, gracing popular Filipino musical shows like ASAP and AOS. Furthermore, their rendition of "Pinoy Ako" (Theme song of the Philippine franchise of Big Brother) at the Philippines Independence Day "Mega Ball Party" not only mesmerised the audience but also went viral, showcasing their unique interpretation of this popular song.
Breaking barriers, G22 became the first Filipino pop group to grace the stage at the famous convention; Toy Con 2024, captivating an audience more accustomed to Japanese pop acts. Their versatility shone through with the release of two new singles, "One Sided Love" and "IHB," further solidifying their presence in the music scene. Jasmine's vocal prowess reached new heights when she joined forces with the "Divas of Queendom" on AOS, navigating the challenges of singing Korean OSTs but still slaying the performance.
Jasmine’s talents are not recognised only in the showbiz world. She generously shares her gift of music in civic occasions. At the invitation of the Ambassador to Australia January 25 this year, she sang both national anthem of the Philippines and of Australia, in celebration of Australian Day alongside with Catriona Gray Miss Universe 2018 and Ann Curtis, Fil-Aus actress.
Despite her success, Jasmine remains humble and caring, using her success to uplift causes close to her heart. Celebrating the 2nd anniversary of her fan group, Jazlings back in February with a heartfelt showcase for fans. In this concert, she was had the children of "Childreamers Tondo Manila," as her special guests. The children and staff were picked up in luxury coach to attend the event which would have been their first time to experience to attend a big concert celebration. During her solo number, a touching scene took place on the stage as the kids came up to hand her hand written letters.
Like the previous year, for her birthday in last June, Jaz again visited the kids in "Childreamers Tondo Manila" with her friends. For the kids's entertainment there were clowns and Jaz and her friends and groupmate sang for the kids as well. They also gave the kids school kits and shared lunch with them. Jasmine's commitment to giving back shines through, demonstrating that success is not just about the applause but also about making a positive impact.
The Australian Filipina was able to reach out to Jasmine for her comments on the group’s amazing achievements.
Jasmine enthused: “This year so far has been a year full of big opportunities and milestones. The girls and I couldn’t be more grateful to see our goals coming true. Most of these opportunities came by surprise and I would just like to thank everyone along the journey, from every bullet, every member of our team and the Lord. PPOP is not just a job, or a description. It’s a revelation. We will work harder and raise our flags high."
"To be chosen to sing the NCAA 100 theme song was a significant moment for us as it reiterates a message that we all need to remind ourselves," she said, explaining: “The sky is the limit”, “Kaya natin to”, continue to be bold and proud of yourself, but humble at the same time and that “We own our future."
TAF wishes Jasmine, Alfea and AJ – G22, Female Alpha’s of Philippine P-Pop world more success in their musical journey.
We congratulate, too, her dear mother Pin Henry and brother Tom who are her number one supporters.
