The Philippines ranked fifth among the top 10 nationalities who took up citizenship in Australia between October 2007 and March 2009 – 3,827 FIlipinos took the citizenship test and 98.5 per cent passed (source: www.citizenship.com.au). Further data show that Filipino immigration has almost doubled in the last eight years.

At the time of the 2006 Census, the median individual weekly income for the Philippine-born Australian aged 15 years and over was $538 – more than the weekly income of $431 for all overseas-born and $488 for all Australian-born people. The population had a median individual weekly income of only $466, indicating that the average Australian-Filipino may have more disposable income.
