NSW Premier Gladys Berjeklian announced at today's media briefing (September 3) the worst count of COVID cases being 1,431 which increased from the previous figure of 1,288.

There were also 12 deaths, the highest occurrence since the pandemic happened. There were 154,654 tests processed over 24-hour reporting period.

There are  979 (an increase of 22 from previous count), in hospital,  with 160 in intensive care.  Sadly, based on trend and figures, Ms Berjeklian admitted that the prediction is the worst is yet to come.

She expressed the positive is that 70% of the adult population has at least one dose of vaccination.

“In the past week more than 827,000 people in NSW have come forward to get vaccinated,” the Premier said.

“This rolling average we have consistently in NSW gives us heart and hope that around the middle of October we will see 70 per cent of our adult population fully vaccinated.”

However Ms Berejiklian foreshadowed that despite high vaccination rates, cases could still increased in the next two weeks before starting to slowly decline.

“We anticipate a peak in cases in the next fortnight,” she said.

The good news is that from September 13, fully vaccinated persons in the Local Government Area which are not of concern, can do outdoor recreation in group of up to five people; for those who are from LGAs of concern, they will enjoy unlimited exercise outdoor and one hour recreational activity like enjoy lunch at the park.

The lockdown period for LGAs of concern remains till the end of September 2021.

In the meantime, Premier Scott Morrison announced at the media briefing that the government has secured 4M Pfizer doses in a UK swap deal.  He also encouraged people to have Astra Zeneca now as it is available to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
