Here's what to expect at this year's festival. By JOSIE MUSA & SARAH JOHNSTONE.

The Philippines Australia Sports & Culture (PASC) begins with the Miss Philippines Australia and Charity Queen Australia pageant, with 10 Finalists from NSW, ACT and VIC all vying for the most prestigious titles within the Philippine-Australian community. Each Finalist sets an example to be a role model for other young women not only through their performance on the Grand Coronation which will be held on September 28th at Rooty Hill RSL but also by raising funds for charitable causes both in Australia and the Philippines.

The Gala Presentation Night on August 4th will be the event where we officially introduce these beautiful ladies to the community and to the press/media as well as the induction of the newly elected board members of PASC.

Next is PASC’s newest event, The Miss Transgender Global Queen and Miss Transgender Global Charity Queen. This pageant will take place at this year’s Grand Fiesta Kultura, a new spectacle embracing the LGBT community and the chance to give our Finalists the opportunity to engage in charitable work to help the less fortunate and display their skills and talents to be advocates of goodwill that can help increase their profile not just nationally but internationally.

With six confirmed Finalists we are hoping to continue to reach out and encourage others to come forth and take part in a rewarding experience.

PASC is also bringing back an oldie but a goodie, the Little Miss Philippines Australia and Little Miss Charity Queen Australia pageant. This will provide an opportunity of fun experiences for girls aged between 3 – 7 years old to take part in a Philippine-Australian cultural event to understand and appreciate traditions, to develop confidence, sportsmanship and make new friends.

This is definitely an event not to be missed. Despite PASCs’ varied activities, at the very heart of the organisation is its commitment to extend welfare assistance to the Philippines and Australia. PASC has donated to various Philippine charities such as the National Blind School, House with No Steps, National Red Cross, Manila Boys Town, Hospicio de San Jose and many more.

PASC opened its scholarship foundation at the Technological University of the Philippines for poor but deserving students doing engineering courses. More recently, in partnership with the Sydney Dental Hospital, it has donated dental equipment to various locations in the Philippines and in collaborative efforts with other organisation like the Australian Masonic Friends of the Philippines (AMFOP).

In its epic 30 year journey, the Grand Philippine Fiesta has been honored with several accolades and recognitions. Namely two Presidential awards for exceptional contributions and advancing the cause of Filipino communities overseas and NSW State Government award for the best marketing effort of a non-profit organisation.

These awards and recognitions are acknowledgements of success. They serve as a reminder of the Filipino’s capacity for achieving the near-impossible even with meagre resources. PASC is also humbled to share that two of community leaders (The late Atty. Lolita Farmer and Mr. Manny Castillo) are recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) prestigious awards.

To the community who has travelled with us all the way we humbly share and dedicate our Awards.
