NSW Premier Gladys Berjeklian announced at today's (Aug 13) media conference that the reported number of cases in the last 24 hours increased to 390 (from 345 and 344 previous counts), with two deaths. However, she expressed satisfaction that the state is on track for its target of 80% vaccination level by end of November.

Ms Berejiklian also declared three additional local government areas of concern in Greater Sydney - Bayside, Strathfield and Burwood in addition to the previously name eight LGAs:   Blacktown,  Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, and 12 of Penrith.

She stated: "We are seeing the front of the virus move forward into these additional communities and we're just asking everybody to make sure that they respect the health orders," she said.

"NSW Health asked us to put those additional three local government areas in, some only had one case overnight, but as a precaution we want to stop the front of the spread moving forward."

The ACT was also put on a snap lockdown from yesterday for a week following a person who tested positive and had gone to a number of places.

Premier Berjeklian also confirmed yesterday  that the lockdown in the Hunter and Upper Hunter regions would be extended for another week .

She expressed appreciation of the increased number of people who had vaccination, and believes that the target of 80% of the population being vaccinated will be met.  She also noted 1,500 HSC students have had their vaccination.

In the meantime, WA has put in place strict new border measure which include requiring NSW travellers to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 .
