Hello everyone! Did you like our last fashion article on being a stylish PInay? Now, let’s talk about something that will greatly affect your clothes. Before going through all the latest fashion trends and what our fashion magazines prescribe, we have to start with what you have – your body. No, not the body of yesteryears but the body that you have right now.  More often than not, we get trapped by our own self-image - thinking that if we diet tomorrow, work-out tomorrow or even get a medical procedure tomorrow, we will retain the figure that we have locked-in our memories to keep that self-image that we have.

Becuase of this, we end up choosing the wrong silhouettes for our current body.  It’s from understanding what your shape is now that you get a clearer idea on what would fit you and look flattering on you based on your current body shape.

Remember that body types are unique. That’s what makes you a cut above the rest. Coupled with your own personality, this contributes greatly to what you call your “personal style.” But for better understanding at what I’m driving at, let’s localise and simplify to these archetypal shapes that will allow you to visualise or even create your own basis for what will (or will not) look good on you when choosing clothes.

THE RECTANGLE

If the measurements of your hip and bust or shoulder and hips are almost in the same area like Thor’s Natalie Portman, then you’d be considered to have a rectangular body shape.

THE TRIANGLE (or “PEAR”)

You’d have to have a body that smaller on top and wider below – your shoulders and bust are narrower than your hips. As the hips increase its measurement, you will see a slope from the bust to the hips like reality TV superstar Kim Kardashian.

THE SPOON

The smaller version of the triangle is the spoon shape. There is an obvious size difference between the upper body and the lower body but the difference may not be as wide as the triangle. The best example would be beauty maven Kylie Jenner.

THE HOURGLASS

This shape would mean that your hips have almost the same size as your shoulders and bust. This would also mean that your upper body and your legs are considered proportionate. This shape may also be coupled with a rounded buttock like the ultimate Hollywood bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.

THE TOP HOURGLASS

For the top hourglass shaped bodies, you may have the same measurements as the hourglass shaped women but with a slightly larger bust measurement as compared to your hips. Best example of this shape is Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara.  Invert the measurements and you’ll have a BOTTOM HOURGLASS shape body.

THE INVERTED TRIANGLE

If your shoulders and bust are larger than your hips then you are considered to have an inverted triangle shape body.  This can give you a more athletic look like The Eternal’s Angelina Jolie.

ROUND OR OVAL

If your bust is larger than the rest of your body, your midsection is fuller and your hips narrower then you have a round body like Kate Upton. It’s also sometimes referred to as the “apple”-shaped body.

Remember that the shape does not change with size – it doesn’t matter if you are a 6 or a 14 you will still be a rectangle based on the proportions described above. Your body will also change as you age – the diminishing or development of your shoulder and bust may be observed and should be then matched to the archetypal shapes mentioned above.

The main idea is that you should embrace what your shape now is. This prevents you from getting the same clothes that you were used to when you were younger – which oftentimes make you feel bad and regretful about the things that you’ve done in the past. So before we dive into that drama, let’s focus on the now and start working on how you would look better from here on end.

This mindset will not only open your eyes to the wide variety of outfits out there that could make a difference from you looking frumpy or being stylish in any shape or form. Keep on to this site and let’s get going on that road to becoming a stylish Pinay.

See you next week!
